I was given a design challenge by Aldo’s Senior Director of Product Creation. It consisted of two exercises: create mood boards based on trends and themes (click here to view) and to colour block Aldo’s shoe ‘Brauer’ in a ‘tasteful’ manner. With the growing trend of embracing one’s culture I used asian motifs such as the colour red and a dragon (together signifying power, luck and happiness) to represent mine.

I was given a design challenge from the Design Director of Consumer Products of Sago Mini. My task was to come up with 3-5 sketch concepts of paper craft activities for preschoolers featuring the Sago Mini characters. I wanted these activities to focus on customization, allowing the child’s imagination to run wild. With concepts 1 and 2, I wanted a large colouring mat that children could draw on, place characters and accessories on. Concept 2 focused on themes of recycling and learning about 3D net shapes. The third concept centered on bathtime and being able to draw on the characters with dry erase markers.

For an Anything But Clothes event, I wanted to create a dress using recycled materials. From a damaged garbage bag, packing paper from a Sephora package and toilet paper, I created a dress that drew a lot of fashion inspiration from the third season of Netflix's series The Crown. I personally love sheath style dresses and loved that the medical gloves I found in my home gave a finishing look.
Using sewing techniques such as pattern making and the use of a hot glue gun to "sew" my piece inside out, I was able to create a really nice fit, neckline and seam. From there I added the toilet paper detail and a simple accordion folded bow. Due to the lack of a zipper my belt had to be glued on prior to going to the event.
